The TruckSafe safety accreditation program will set a new high bar for trucking industry safety with the release of its new accreditation standards at Trucking Australia 2016 next month.
Under the scheme unveiled earlier this month by NSW roads minister Duncan Gay and to come into effect on July 1, heavy vehicles working in the construction sector will have greater access to the state’s road network at top weight as long as they meet safety, emissions, and monitoring requirements.
Police and RMS officers have now inspected 41,839 trucks and trailers, issuing 3,795 defects, and 2,944 infringements and breaches.
The new squad, headed by a former Victorian Ombudsman investigator, will conduct detailed investigations into “unscrupulous training providers”, and closely examine the quality of courses on offer, the government said on Wednesday.
The Calder Freeway has reopened after a horror crash in Melbourne’s west on Tuesday that claimed the life of a man.
Crews cleared the scene of a multi-vehicle crash involving a petrol tanker and about ten cars, which claimed the life of one person at about 4.40am.
Calder Freeway crash: 20,000 litres of fuel flushed into tranquil creek
About 20,000 litres of unleaded fuel and diesel, plus more firefighting foam, was emptied into that creek via drains on the side of the road during the course of the accident.
There was enough fuel in the river to make some parts of it hazardous to human health, firefighters said.
She was allegedly hit by a 36-year-old truck driver who didn’t stop and left her lying on the road at the intersection of Pittwater Road and Condamine Street.
A second truck travelling close behind then ran over Ms Thwaites and dragged her under his Izuzu truck for about 600 metres, Fairfax Media has been told.
The New South Wales Police have raided the Wollongong-based headquarters of trucking company Barnett’s Couriers following a fatal crash involving one of its trucks.
This comes as police conducted on surprise operation on the headquarters of the company the truck belongs to — Baiada Poultry in Girraween — checking the heavy vehicles for defects and testing the drivers for drugs and alcohol.
New South Wales police and the state’s Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) are investigating a number of breaches by truck drivers in the south of the state after two vehicles were recorded well over the speed limit.

Does your organisation have the Supply Chain Partner Register?
The Supply Chain Partner Register is used by management to identify and record all supply chain partner relationships, for example, a transport operator would keep a record of all consignors and consignees, while a consignor would keep a record of all transport operators and consignees.
The key components of the Supply Chain Partner Register include the:
- relationship (i.e. consignor, consignee, transport operator)
- company name and primary contact
- whether or not the partner has signed the Commitment Checklist
- date due for review and re-sign of the Commitment Checklist
