Jailed Truck Driver Freed After Appeal

The truck driver who was jailed for a crash in which he slammed into a line of cars and seriously injured 2 NSW police officers as well as 4 other people, has been released after successfully appealing against his conviction.

The driver sped down a hill at Dee Why in October 2014, which resulted in him losing control of the truck he was driving and ploughing into the cars, injuring 6 people.

He was last year found guilty of dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm to 2 police officers while apparently traveling twice the speed limit.

He subsequently lost control of the 22 tonne truck and it flipped and slammed into the vehicles stopped at a red light at Pittwater Road intersection. On Thursday the driver won an appeal after claiming the crash may have been the result of failed brakes rather than dangerous driving.
