Stolen Truck Crashed by Intoxicated Thief

Sydney Police recently arrested a man who had been detained by construction workers after he apparently drove a stolen truck, while under the influence of alcohol from a construction site and into a shopfront in the CBD.

When police arrived they were informed by construction workers that the 3 tonne truck was parked for the Light Rail construction works when an unknown man got in and drove it through the worksite and into George Street. He then crashed it through the front windows of a nearby cafe before attempting to drive away.

Construction workers chased the man on foot and physically removed him from the truck and detained him until police officers arrived.

The thief was a 33 year old man from Queenscliff. He was arrested and underwent a roadside breath test which returned a positive reading. He was thereafter taken to Sydney Hospital for blood tests. He was then taken to Day Street Police Station to be charged.
