Truck Carrying Aerosol Cans Catches Fire on Hume Highway

A truck driver on the Hume Highway at Yass was lucky to escape alive after his vehicle, loaded with aerosol cans went up in flames.

Police and emergency crews were on the scene 1km north of the Yass Valley off-ramp after the truck erupted in flames with witnesses saying the driver detached the vehicle’s cabin from the trailer before the fire occurred.

Some witnesses reported hearing booming noises from 500 metres away as well as a chemical smell in town.

Traffic was also affected with a witness saying the traffic queue backed up at least 500 metres.
