US Truck Regulator Wants Powers To Remove Dodgy Operators from the Road

The US transport department are calling for changes to make identifying and targeting non-compliant operators easier.

The US trucking regulator has called for expanded powers to target dodgy trucking firms and get them off the road.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) proposal  to update the system used to rate trucking companies, known as Safety Fitness Determination (SFD), calls for a single determination of whether a company is unfit and needs to either improve or get off the road.

This differs from the current system which labels a company in one of 3 tiers after conducting an assessment, ‘satisfactory’, ‘conditional’ or ’unsatisfactory’.
