NHVR Calls for Industry Feedback on Bid to Modernise Heavy Vehicle Modifications

The NHVR (National Heavy Vehicle Regulator) is seeking feedback from the transport industry on the updated draft of the Vehicle Standards Bulletin (VSB) 6: National Code of Practice for Heavy Vehicle Modifications.

The VSB6 will ultimately set the standard for common modifications performed on heavy vehicles nationwide.

NHVR safety director Daniel Elkins said the regulator wanted to hear more from the industry on how to simplify the process for the heavy vehicle industry to modify their vehicles.

He also explained that the VSB6 was used Australia-wide by individuals involved in the modification of heavy vehicles. It ensures safe modification of heavy vehicles and that they comply with relevant Australia Design Rules (ADR’s) and in-service vehicle standards regulations.

A comprehensive review started in July 2015 and the draft is available for review until March 17.

The public consultation draft is available at www.nhvr.gov.au/VSB6.
