Dangerous Paperwork Will Hopefully End Soon

QUADAXLE

The dangerous and frustrating practice of long distance drivers having to wait hours for paperwork to be completed after they have unloaded may soon come to an end.

The needlessly long waiting time was one of the weak links in the chain of responsibility that was raised at the last ATA Technical and Maintenance Conference in Melbourne, sponsored by Paccar.

During a session on fatigue, the issue was discussed and the behaviour of some customers was highlighted. The driver is often dismissed as insignificant by the consignors and consignees and they are kept waiting.

In some cases drivers have to wait six or seven hours for paperwork and they end up having to drive at night, when they could have been driving in daylight.

It is believed that the new national CoR law will look at these potential causes of incidents and  not just post-incidents.
