Federal Government Commits $350,000 for Codes of Practice Development

A safer heavy vehicle industry is the goal for us all which is why the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator’s (NHVR) guidelines are of such importance. The federal government’s recent commitment of $350,000 in funding to assist heavy vehicle industry bodies and individual operators develop new codes of the practice based on the NHVR’s guidelines have been welcomed.

The funding will provide grants which cover development and registration costs.

The ATA (Australian Trucking Association) and ALC (Australian Logistics Council ) are 2 of the organisations that worked with the regulator during its consultation phase when developing the guidelines. Both organisations welcomed the funding which they said would help improve safety standards and assist businesses in avoiding the risk of breaching Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL).

The ATA through its CEO Ben Maguire said the codes would complement the ATA’s TruckSafe Program, a program comprising 5 sets of standards which businesses in the program must comply with, audited by experienced, qualified and objective auditors.
