Truck Hits Bridge on Racecourse Road Leaving Tram Passengers Stranded

A truck recently hit into the Flemington Bridge on Racecourse Road in Melbourne, leaving many tram passengers on the 57 tram stranded.

Buses had to be called in to replace tram services after the truck crashed into the bridge near Moonee Ponds Creek.

Just four days prior the Newmarket Bridge was hit by another truck.

Both bridges have 3.7 metre clearances and have been hit many times in the past year. They are just 800 metres apart.

In a 6 month period last year, 12 major incidents at bridges were recorded by Yarra Trams at the 2 bridges.

These bridges are some of the most commonly struck by trucks in Melbourne.
