Nationwide Blitz Reveals Drug Driving and Defected Vehicles

A nationwide blitz has resulted in dozens of truck drivers being pulled over nationwide and testing positive for drugs. Many other truckies were found to have defective vehicles.

Random screenings and checks on 527 heavy vehicle drivers resulted in 15 testing positive for methylamphetamine and one of them also testing positive for THC (cannabis).

There were 2 drivers who also tested positive for THC.

During the blitz police issued 70 expiation notices, 42 defect notices and 10 drivers were reported for a range of other offences.

SA Police Traffic Support Branch, Inspector Ben Spencer said heavy vehicle drivers who used drugs to combat fatigue were threatening the safety of all other road users.
