Driver Jailed after Killing Cyclist while Adjusting Radio

The consequences of distracted driving have been highlighted by a tragic incident that took place in Victoria.

A cyclist was struck by a 24 year old distracted driver on 10 December last year, forever changing both their lives.

The cyclist did not make it, he tragically died as a result of his injuries while the distracted driver who caused the crash now has a criminal record.

The young driver was apparently trying to connect her phone’s bluetooth to the car audio when she struck and killed the 57 year old cyclist.

While the young woman was remorseful for her actions, the judge insisted a prison term was necessary and handed down a 9 month sentence. She pleaded guilty to one charge of dangerous driving causing death.

This incident should serve as a cautionary tale to all drivers about the dangers of distracted driving, even for a second.
