Less Heavy Vehicle Inspectors, More Accidents in NSW

There has been a connection made between the increase in truck crashes on NSW roads and the reduction in the number of heavy vehicle inspectors.

The Public Service Association has warned that perhaps unsafe heavy vehicles were going undetected due to the reduction in heavy vehicle safety inspectors. This comes in the wake of the state government’s choice to leave a number of positions unfilled.

According to an article on SMH.com.au we saw a 45 per cent increase in truck related deaths in the past year.

According to figures from the union, there are 34 less safety inspectors than last year at this time, amounting to a 15 per cent reduction in the total workforce, are the 2 related?
