Truck Driver Arrested following Fatal Hit-and-Run

A truck driver in the Coorong region of South Australia has been arrested following a hit-and-run accident involving a cyclist.

The driver recently appeared in court after a Victorian cyclist was struck by a vehicle in the area, between Kingston SE and Salt Creek.

The 37 year old man from Mount Gambier was behind the wheel of the truck that struck a 60 year old Victorian cyclist.

The man was arrested nine hours after the incident and has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, 2 counts of driving without due care and leaving the scene of an accident.

A Mt Gambier Magistrate refused bail for the driver.

The injured cyclist was found on the side of the road by a passing motorist and paramedics were called but he died at the scene. SA Police spent the day inspecting vehicles in the area, looking for front-end damage which is how they identified the truck driver.
