The Australian Code for the Transport of Dangerous Goods by Road and Rail will soon be updated, reducing the burden linked to transporting low-risk items. The changes will also  bring the code in line with new United Nations requirements.

As of 1 July the changes will take effect and as of 1 July 2019, they will be compulsory.

One of the most notable changes is the simplifying of transport of lower risk limited quantities of dangerous goods, National Transport Commission (NTC) Chief executive Paul Retter said.

When transporting low-risk dangerous goods in limited quantities such as household cleaning products, perfumes and cosmetics, operators will no longer have to abide by time-consuming labeling and  marking requirements.
