Industry led Calls to Increase Maximum Width of Trucks

The industry-led campaign to increase the maximum width for heavy vehicles in Australia is growing in popularity with the National Road Transport Association being the latest to add its voice to the cause.

NatRoad recently took part in discussions with Government officials on proposals to increase the maximum width to 2550mm from 2500mm with refrigerated vehicles being permitted to have a width of 2600mm.

NatRoad said governments should grant general access to heavy vehicles with these widths.

Austroads is currently working on the implications of making the changes.

The goverment has been working on impediments to reducing the average age of the national heavy vehicle fleet, this would mean newer models with greater safety features could be introduced to the Australian market at lower cost.
