Reasons for Millenials to Take Up Truck Driving

A report by the American Trucking Association noted that the industry in that country needed to hire at least 900,000 more drivers in order to meet demand, with 185,000 jobs being added over the past 4 months alone. The industry needs to attract more talent or it could be in big trouble.

The average age of a commercial truck driver is 55 and the concern is that older, more qualified truckies are retiring and millenials aren’t replacing them at a fast enough pace.

Talk of autonomous trucks taking the place of truck drivers is also deterring young people from entering the industry but it will be a long time before autonomous vehicles will actually help ease the shortage of truck drivers.
