Truck Driver Jailed for Four Years

A truck driver has been jailed for almost 4 years and banned from the road for 15 years for a head on collision that killed another road-user.

The driver labelled as “an accident waiting to happen” was sentenced in the district court after demonstrating what has been described as “appalling” and “flagrant disregard” for road rules.

The driver had a three decade long history of bad driving prior to the crash that killed school teacher Maria Dowdell in a head on collision, as numerous convictions were proof of.

Previous offences include speeding, dangerous driving and driving under the influence of methylamphetamine.

The driver was sentenced to 5 years jail time with a non-parole period of 3 years, 10 months and 21 days.
