A road safety incident in Victoria’s north resulted in lane closures and major traffic delays after a truck rolled off a highway.

The truck driver was injured after it is believed he lost control of the truck on the corner of the Golburn Valley Highway and Hume Freeway in Seymour. The truck plummeted down an embankment.

The truck driver, a man in his 50s, had to be rescued from the vehicle and suffered serious head and leg injuries.

The man was airlifted to Royal Melbourne Hospital by air ambulance in a stable condition.

Boxes of chickens spilled onto the road from the back of the truck and about 200 metres of cable from the barrier of the highway was ripped away.

Thankfully no other road-users were involved in the crash.
