Industry Calls for Road Safety to Address Death Toll

The Australian Trucking Association (ATA) said in its submission to the Australian Government’s Inquiry into the next National Road Safety Strategy that a zero death and serious injury approach (“Towards Zero”) is necessary.

In the submission the ATA makes 19 recommendations including,

  • Making the fitment of Electronic Stability Control mandatory on all new trucks and trailers.
  • Appointing the Australian Transport Safety Bureau to provide independent, no-blame, safety investigations for road crashes involving heavy vehicles.
  • Better roads and rest stops for trucks.
  • Fatigue law reforms
  • Better education for learner drivers about safely sharing the road with trucks.
