Freight truck drivers aren’t the only ones affected by drugs, according to a recent article on the HeraldSun.com.au which revealed that 6 garbage truck drivers working for the inner-city council Moreland through the council’s rubbish collection contractor Citywide, tested positive to drugs during a recent workplace drug test.

The drivers tested positive to cannabis, methamphetamine and tranquillisers.

The company is not required to inform police of the positive drug readings under law, so drivers were able to keep their licences and jobs and were able to avoid a criminal conviction.

The contractor initially made the employees stand down after the positive readings and they were not allowed to return to work until a drug-free sample was returned.

These employees are also now subject to more frequent drug testing and further transgressions will result in dismissal, the company said.
