Truckies Join WA Drought Relief Efforts

WA truckies, rural businesses and farmers joined together to send massive convoys of road trains loaded with donated hay to assist drought affected farmers in the Eastern States.

Reports estimate 50 to 70 road trains will travel into Queensland and NSW in January to assist in drought relief efforts as part of Farmers Across Borders- Hay from WA. The initiative is headed by Esperance region farmers Sam Starcevich and Anne Bell.

Within days local farmers and businesses had already committed 8 truckloads of hay, each worth about $10,000 with more expected before the departure in September.

In August 23 trucks headed east carrying WA hay bought by Rapid Relief from donated funds.
