Penalties Enforced on Trucks for Brisbane Urban Corridor Shortcut

The Brisbane Urban Corridor between Rocklea and Wishart is a no truck zone and a ‘No Truck’ sign is displayed on the route as per Queensland road rules, however some heavy vehicles are still using it.

Trucks that weight more than 4.5 tonnes have started receiving infringement notices for using the route, Transport and Main Roads (TMR) Queensland has announced.

This heavy vehicle access restriction applies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Authorities warned that Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras are in use on this corridor and that heavy vehicles (excluding motorised caravans) cannot access the route unless their destination is within the corridor.

The ban came after a trial of the ANPR technology in October 2018 as a result of concerns regarding traffic and congestion in the local neighbourhood.

Fines for breaching the ban can total $130 and include 3 demerit points for individuals or $625 for organisations.

The TMR advised operators to schedule their routes along the Logan and Gateway motorways instead.
